Care Instructions for Jewelry

When one purchases jewelry it is an investment or purchase for a lifetime, and taking care of the pieces is a duty that comes with it to keep your jewelry looking elegant and new as ever. Here is how to ensure that your piece is looking as good as new:

Keep Away from Chemicals
Chemicals that are found in perfumes, sanitizers, face wash etc. can erode or dull metal settings. Make sure you wear your jewelry last, after using any chemical related products.

Store it Carefully
A cool and dry place is the best way to store your jewelry - especially in airtight boxes. This is to retain the shine and to prevent it from tarnishing, wrap your piece in a soft-cloth and never use newspaper.

Clean your Jewelry
Dip your jewelry into a mug of warm water mixed with a few drops of soap. Tap it dry with soft lint-free cloth to keep it clean and shiny. Always ensure you clean your jewelry after wearing it, as sweat brings in moisture that could cause tarnishing. Certain metals have special washing instructions. Always double check if water and soap would suffice or if your metal needs further care (baking soda or vinegar for certain metals).

Do keep in mind that the above mentioned points are generic care instructions for all jewelry types. However, certain types of jewelry may need extra/different care.

All Avenir pieces are made with gold-plated 92.5 Sterling Silver. Nevertheless, sterling silver tends to tarnish because of its composition (alloyed metal with 92.5% pure silver). Tarnish merely refers to the chemical reaction of sterling silver with oxygen, it is in no way corroded or spoilt, and need not be neglected! Just by regular wear (your skin’s natural oils help keep the shine of sterling silver) and basic care instructions mentioned above, you can keep your jewelry looking like new for years to come!
