Mining diamonds have negative impacts on water resources, air quality, climate change and also can have unethical impacts on laborers and local communities. With sustainable lab grown diamonds, we have more control over our ethical footprint and our process is less harmful because of its low carbon footprint and ethical practices.
The Lab Grown Process
Lab grown diamonds’ physical, chemical, and optical properties are indistinguishable from those of mined diamonds. They are manufactured using conditions in a lab that mimic the natural process that creates earth grown diamonds.
The process of making a diamond in a lab is much more efficient and cost effective.
Labs use two different methods to grow diamonds—High Pressure-High Temperature (HPHT) and Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD).
A small diamond seed is placed into a piece of carbon, which is then pressurized and exposed to extreme high temperatures to melt the carbon, forming a diamond around the initial diamond seed. The newly formed diamond is then carefully cooled.
With the control of creating a diamond in a lab rather than the billions of years it takes to create mined diamonds, lab grown diamonds take only a few weeks to grow and cost much less than a naturally mined diamond. Lab Grown Diamonds have an identical chemical structure to natural diamonds. In the same way as natural diamonds, lab diamonds go through strict grading assessment during certification, by grading laboratories like GIA and IGI. This means you can filter your diamond search by the usual cut, color, carat and clarity standards - so you can find a lab grown diamond equally beautiful and real as a mined diamond.
